My name is Susan Stephen and Window Box Art & Design is my independent graphic design and art studio.

The majority of my work tends to be large-scale, mixed media on either canvas or paper. Layer upon layer is built up over time; and often stripped away (with sandpaper, scrapers, bits of wood… whatever's on hand, really) to reveal colour, pattern and shapes hidden underneath.
The natural world probably provides most of my inspiration (Mother Nature really seems to know what she's doing). You may see elements of the Northern Lights (from my 10 years living in Edmonton) up alongside something resembling the prairie (where I grew up) or mountains (where my heart is)… and I do love my flowers. There are references to internal landscapes as well - whatever is going on in my life at the moment seems to make its' way into the picture in some small way - however subtle it may be!
I was formally educated in painting at the Alberta College of Art & Design (ACAD), and also studied at the San Francisco Art Institute.
Studio Shows & Commissions
I hold intimate studio shows at my home (or other select venues) every couple of years; and am always happy to create a special work on commission. Please contact me for more details.
